About Us

John & Gill Buckley make up the team at Straight Up Rod Racks. The drive to create the business came about when a friend said to us "you'll never sell those".  Of course, we had to prove him wrong and have gone on from selling our racks on TradeMe to the small niche part time business that it is today, selling direct through our website to hundreds of satisfied customers.   

As every rack is different and tailored to suit your rod & reel collection, we have found it best to continue offering our racks for sale direct through our website rather than through the tackle stores.  Selling direct also saves you money, however we realise that for some people it can feel like a big risk to order and pay for an item sight unseen and wait for its delivery.  So we thought we'd introduce ourselves and put your mind at rest. 

John is the main rack builder and as well as that he is the manager of a 1000 acre farm on the Karikari Peninsula, a farm fencing contractor and occasional commercial fisherman.  When he is not working or fighting fires as a volunteer for the Karikari Rural Fire Brigade, he can be found fishing all over the peninsula and beyond.

Gill looks after the adminstration and timber tattooing and also works full time for a Travel Management Company.  When she is not working, she also enjoys the occasional fishing excursion and working on honing her skills as an artist.
